Christmas Letter 2011
Merry Christmas from the Schnebly’s. We are still enjoying Mesa, Arizona and we have seven wonderful children. We are busy like all families, but it is fun and rewarding. Joseph was laid off from the VA in April and then rehired in July of this year. He works hard adjusting the veterans at the Phoenix Veterans Hospital and then still keeps his private practice going. He currently serves as the Young Men’s President for our church ward. He loves to plan dates where we go out to eat at yummy restaurants. He goes grocery shopping a lot, so I don’t have to. He spends time watching movies with the kids and wrestles with them on the bed. He also helps out at home while I go shop and enjoy personal time.
I have been doing what women do: laundry, dishes, clean up, counseling, listening, disciplining, nurturing. I am working on a quilt for Judy and Barbie clothes. I have been slowly learning how to play the guitar and how to make a good loaf of bread. I also had a visit to the hospital, which was not a joy, but glad we have doctors to help us. I got my appendix out in September and I enjoyed the time to ponder many things. I was forced to rely on others to help me. It was a good time and a painful time. All things work together for your good. I am all better now and I am so glad. I appreciate the ability to do things for my family and others.
Silke is at Mesa High School this year as a freshman. She enjoys participating in the choir and enjoys being with friends. She has been earning money by being a referee for Arizona Soccer Club. She auditioned to be in the Mesa Easter Pageant and will get to spend lots of time at rehearsals and performances next year. She is taking advanced classes and has a lot of homework, but would rather enjoy spending time with her sisters and brothers. She just got two new pets, Severus and Lilly, her rabbits. We got them as babies and they are growing fast. She also enjoys her smart bird, Saphira. She likes to get out of her cage and has survived a run-in with the ceiling fan. We had to safety pin her doors closed so she can’t get out.
Landon has been busy with Boy Scouts. He did a food drive and painted a pool fence for a homeless shelter for his Eagle Project. He finished his Eagle Project and is waiting for his Board of Review to receive his Eagle Scout award. He has been participating in two different clubs this year at Franklin Junior High School, Robotics and National Academic League. He was able to program some robots for the competition and participate in the research of the project. Unfortunately, due to lack of clarity with one of the rules, his team was docked points that took them from 1st to 6th place in their competition. He is now competing with other schools with the National Academic League and they are undefeated so far. He has been earning money by selling drinks at parks and different events. He runs the business with his sister Judy and they are a good team.
Judy is currently busy participating in the Nutcracker ballet. She is a big mouse and she enjoys being on stage. She really loves ballet and wants to excel in that area. She is still playing the violin in her orchestra at school. She has been earning money being a referee for the Arizona Soccer Club and helping her brother sell drinks. When she has time, she loves to play with her sisters Barbies, baby dolls, and other fun things. At times, she is like a second mother for her little sisters. She also is becoming a great pianist and playing hymns and children’s church songs. She placed 3rd in the Spelling Bee.
Mathis is a very avid reader lately. He has read the whole Harry Potter series and is just finishing the Leven Thumps series. He likes to play around the world with basketball. He likes to do flips on the trampoline and enjoys playing with his brother and little sisters. He is taking piano lessons and doing very well. He is very good at counting while he is playing and playing it the right way. He is determined to get every song perfect. He enjoys riding his bike to school and prepares very good lessons for Family Home Evening. If he puts his mind to things, he completes them well. He has a great imagination and has fun games for his little brother and sisters to play. He loves to draw in his free time and is doing very well at school.
Hyrum has a love of animals. He loves to watch Wild Kratt’s on PBS. He is always reading animal books and loves the non-fiction section at the library. He has read 100 books in 1st grade so far. He rides his scooter to school with his brother and sister. He loves to go to school and is always excited for what is happening at school. He loves to draw and color many things. He is compiling all his art work in his scrapbook and loves inventing different things. He loves to pretend his backpack is a jetpack and run around the house out of control and crash on the couch. He is a bundle of smiles and energy.
Sedona is a wonderful 3 year old that loves to dance. She takes dancing classes from Judy when she has time. She also enjoys watching Wild Kratt’s with her brothers and sisters. She enjoys doing science experiments, having school, and watching Sid, the science kid. She loves to climb our grapefruit tree, swing at the park, and play with the pet bunnies. She loves to pretend with baby dolls, dishes, play food, and Barbies. She is always preparing “surprises” for her family. She loves to color, paint, and do crafts. She is full of smiles and energy and loves to play with her friends.
Sarah is growing up so fast and is learning new words every day. She loves to take baths and showers. She loves to go outside and swing in the tire swing and try to climb the tree. I sat her up in the tree once and she climbed to the top. It was hard to get her down, so you can tell she is a great climber. She loves to go on walks and enjoy nature. She loves to get messy while eating pudding and candy. She loves to explore her world and learn new words. She is a great helper no matter if you are loading or unloading. She loves to give hugs and smile and say “Bye” and “Hi.” to everyone. She is a sweetheart.
We hope that you all are happy and that you have a wonderful Christmas season.
Love,
